I have been teaching all-day workshops on thinking tactics since 2004. The Thinking Lab started in 2008 and has grown to include a library of 60+ tools and 20 courses, totaling well over 200 hours of recordings. These resources have helped a lot of people be more productive, achieve ambitious goals, and raise their baseline happiness.

In this free teaser for the Thinking Lab, I will explain how tactics help thinkers use their minds more effectively and why even the smartest, most effective thinkers benefit from using them. (In fact, they benefit the fastest, because they quickly integrate the tactics with their existing processes.)

I will use two tactics, “thinking on paper” and “complaining,” as the examples. If you have not learned “thinking on paper,” please get the free Thinking Directions Starter Kit and read the PDF titled “How to Focus Your Thoughts for Action.” We will discuss how the tactics result in faster, more efficient thinking. Generally, they do this because they:

  • Increase your self-awareness of the causal processes involved in thinking
  • Make it faster and easier to integrate your knowledge and values to be 100% self-consistent
  • Eliminate overload, blankness, conflict, and other dysfunctional states that waste time

If there is interest, I will do a “drive by” on each of the other tactics in The Thinker’s Toolkit, explaining how each one of them provides the scaffolding for understanding a different aspect of the interaction between the conscious mind and the automatic functions of memory and affect.*

*This interaction has been called “psycho-epistemology.” I no longer use that term, nor the term “subconscious.” You can ask me about why that is in the Q&A!

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Is this video or audio?
A: This is an audio-only recording.

Q: Can I download a recording of the session instead of listening live?
A: Yes. If you sign up in advance for the session and can’t make it for any reason, you will be able to listen to and/or download an audio-only recording. Everyone who signs up in advance will get download information after the session is held. But try to attend live, so you can ask questions and get the full benefit of the session.

Q: Are there written materials for the session?
A: No, there is no handout for this session.
